Where is this hosted?

We host UYC in the Amazon cloud using a 5 CPU 64 bit Ubuntu virtual server. All information shown comes directly from source and is automatically updated from SVN/CVS, reanalyzed and republished using Unix cron jobs. The largest project currently hosted is the 17 million line Android project. It takes a few hours to re-analyze and publish a project that size.

How big is all this analysis?

About 1/2 gigabyte per 1 million lines of analyzed code.

What tool makes the website?

The analysis is done by Understand Team, our documentation, metrics and analysis sharing system. Can you do this with your code. Yes. It is very easy.

Is Understand Team open source?

Unfortunately not. We can’t, yet, figure out how we would survive moving that way. Don’t bug us with “it would work” e-mails, it isn’t your mortgage and families we have to feed. We are, however, open to Google, or Redhat, Nokia, IBM, or some other interested party in buying us and releasing all our tools into the open. We’d probably give them a good deal (-:

How does this compare to LXR or Doxygen

There are obvious similarities. Understand Team provide more detailed information, generally. UT also provides for team members to discuss code online and to document it OUTSIDE the source code. It also provides metrics and, we believe, is easier and faster to use.
